Cebolinha Debuts for Santos and Promises a Bright Future
The forward arrives in top form and is already turning heads at the club
Everton Cebolinha has arrived at Santos and has already shown what he can do on the pitch. In his debut as a starter on the left wing, he helped Peixe defeat Cruzeiro 2-1 at Vila Belmiro, earning praise from head coach Cuca and pundit Bira.
Cebolinha makes his mark in the first half
The forward was a key player in the first half, as Santos controlled the match and created chance after chance. Bira highlighted that Cebolinha "stepped up" and that his performance helps "calm" the anxiety surrounding the arrival of Philippe Coutinho.
Feeling at home
In a post-match interview, Cebolinha stated that he has felt at home since arriving at the club. He emphasized that his quick adaptation to the squad and the atmosphere at Vila Belmiro made the process easier, and that he already feels good wearing the black-and-white shirt.
Automatic suspension for the next round
The forward received his third yellow card in the match against Cruzeiro and, as a result, must serve an automatic suspension against Remo in the next round of the Brasileirão. He arrived at Santos having carried over two accumulated yellow cards from Flamengo.
Sidelined for the next three matches
In addition to the suspension, Cebolinha was not registered for the Copa Sudamericana and cannot play against Flamengo due to a clause requiring the payment of a R$ 2 million fine. As such, he will miss the fixtures against Atlético-MG, Remo, and Flamengo.
Head coach Cuca's reaction
The coach praised Cebolinha's performance, stating that he "had a great debut" and that he "dribbled, took shots, tracked back—exactly what we expected of him." The player showed great movement and registered eight shots, though he did not score in the match.
Future outlook
Despite the suspension, Cebolinha believes he will score soon and that Santos will have an important player for the remainder of the season. The forward also highlighted the club's new chapter, which has included signings such as Rodinei, Arthur, Lima, and Coutinho.
