Setter Macris Fernanda Silva Carneiro has been released from the training camp of the Brazilian Senior Women’s National Volleyball Team by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV). The Praia Clube athlete will not be part of the squad competing in the South American Championship. The decision was formalized by the federation in a statement that also confirmed the release of libero Natinha.

Release of athletes from the Rio de Janeiro preparation

The confirmation of Macris Carneiro’s departure came via an official note issued by the CBV. The federation announced the release of the setter and libero Natália Pereira de Araújo, known as Natinha, from the activities that were being held at the training center in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro.

Following the technical staff and federation’s directive, the two Praia Clube players are out of the continental championship race. The Brazilian National Team had been preparing after finishing as runner‑up in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), a tournament where they were beaten by Turkey 3‑1 in the decisive match.

New players called by coach José Roberto Guimarães

With the roster changes, coach José Roberto Guimarães called three more names to join the trainings. Setter Vivian and wing spiker Karina, both from Sesc RJ Flamengo, along with opposite Sabrina from Praia Clube, were promoted from the B squad to the main roster.

In July, the trio won the South American Cup by defeating Colombia in the final, an event where Sabrina was named the tournament’s most valuable player. The players now join the Saquarema group for the final selection of the championship roster.

Registration rules and final roster cuts

The addition of the new athletes changes the composition of the group training for the continental tournament. According to the competition’s regulations, each participating national team may register up to 14 athletes in its final roster.

Consequently, five players currently in the training list will still need to be cut before the start of the matches. The preparation roster includes middle blockers Diana, Larissa, Lorena and Luzia; opposites Kisy, Tainara and Sabrina; wing spikers or opposites Ana Cristina, Helena and Rosamaria; wing spikers Gabi Guimarães, Júlia Bergmann and Karina; setters Roberta and Vivian; and liberos Marcelle and Nyeme.

Continental contest at Maracanãzinho and Olympic spot

The Women’s South American Volleyball Championship will be held at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. Besides Brazil, the competition features national teams from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.

The tournament is decisive for the international scene, as the champion earns a direct berth to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Brazil’s match schedule in the championship

The Brazilian team’s game schedule for the Maracanãzinho tournament is already set:

  • Brazil vs. Venezuela, Tuesday (9/8) at 20:00;
  • Brazil vs. Peru, Wednesday (9/9) at 20:00;
  • Brazil vs. Colombia, Thursday (9/10) at 20:00;
  • Brazil vs. Chile, Saturday (9/12) at 13:30;
  • Brazil vs. Argentina, Sunday (9/13) at 12:00.
