Ayres Rocha, anchor of Jornal do Acre (JAC2) for over 30 years, passed away this Wednesday (14) at the age of 62 in Rio Branco. The journalist had been undergoing cancer treatment in João Pessoa, Paraíba, but returned to Acre's capital approximately a month before his death to be close to his family and the city where he built his career.

A Career That Defined TV Acre

He began at TV Acre in 1989 while working as a bank clerk. He accepted an invitation to replace the host of a sports program and later moved through various newscasts at the station before taking over as anchor of Jornal do Acre 2ª Edição (JAC2) in 1995. He was recognized for his distinctive voice, serenity, and professionalism, earning him the nickname "professor" among colleagues.

National Recognition in 2019

In 2019, Ayres represented Acre in the commemorative 50th-anniversary edition of Jornal Nacional, on TV Globo, sharing the anchor desk with journalist Jéssica Senra. His participation brought national recognition to Ayres' work and to Acre's journalism.

Government and Legislative Assembly's Reaction

Acre's governor, Mailza Assis, released a note of condolence highlighting Ayres' importance to local communication. The president of the Legislative Assembly, representative Nicolau Júnior, also expressed solidarity with the family, friends, and colleagues, praising the journalist's career.

Wake and Farewell

The wake will be held this Wednesday, starting at 10 AM, at the chapel of Funerária São João Batista, located on Avenida Antônio da Rocha Viana, in Rio Branco. Family and friends accompanied Ayres in his final days, during which he maintained the good humor and serenity characteristic of his career.

Legacy and Local Impact

With over three decades of television presence, Ayres Rocha left a void in Acre's journalism and in the hearts of those who followed him. His work helped deliver daily information about the state to viewers, solidifying his position as one of the main references in local communication.
