Actor Marcos Palmeira transforms farm with tree planting

Actor Marcos Palmeira has transformed a degraded property in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro into an environmental sanctuary dedicated to recovering the Atlantic Forest. Acquired in 1997 in Teresópolis, Vale das Palmeiras Farm protects water springs, maintains reserve areas, and prepares the land for planting thousands of native trees.

The farm's recovery and care for water springs

Since acquiring the property, Marcos Palmeira has been leading a gradual process of recovering degraded areas. The sections near the water springs received special attention from the early years, as protecting these areas is essential to reduce erosion processes and ensure the maintenance of water resources.

The large-scale forest restoration project

In partnership with the Instituto Terra de Preservação Ambiental, the initiative has started a new phase to restore 1.3 million square meters. The planning includes planting 200,000 native trees across 130 hectares, combining seedling cultivation with natural regeneration processes of the biome.

Native species and biodiversity in the biome

Reforestation prioritizes species characteristic of the Atlantic Forest to recover the forest's ecological functions and support local fauna. Among the trees planned for the project are jequitibá, juçara palm, aroeira, and pau-ferro.

Protected areas and private reserves

The property features two Private Natural Heritage Reserves, named Rildo 1 and Rildo 2. These private areas are voluntarily dedicated to biodiversity conservation and have permanent protection, even in the event of a future change of ownership.

Organic production and rural sustainability

Alongside the environmental conservation initiatives, the farm maintains organic production activities. The model demonstrates that agricultural activity and ecosystem protection can coexist and complement each other on the same rural property.
