Fatal Accident on RSC-287 Kills Driver, Causes Congestion

A serious traffic accident recorded on the morning of September 14, 2026, interrupted traffic flow on RSC-287, km 92, in Santa Cruz do Sul, near the Pinheiral district. The three-vehicle collision left a 35-year-old driver dead and caused a traffic jam of over four kilometers.

The incident occurred around 7:30 AM when a Volkswagen Spacefox, with license plates from Venâncio Aires, attempted to overtake and entered the oncoming lane, colliding head-on with a Mercedes-Benz Atego truck from Ortigueira (PR), which was operating for the Rota de Santa Maria concessionaire.

Vehicles Involved and Collision Dynamics

In addition to the Spacefox and the truck, the accident involved a Citroën Picasso from Santa Clara do Sul, which was hit laterally by the truck after the head-on collision. The Spacefox was thrown onto the adjacent lane, where road duplication works are underway.

Immediate Traffic Consequences

Due to the impact, traffic was operating in a stop-and-go system, with alternating flow between the two directions of the road. The blockage caused a traffic jam of over four kilometers in the stretch.

Authorities' Response and Emergency Services

Teams from the Rota de Santa Maria concessionaire, the Military Highway Policing Command (CPRv BM), the Military Fire Brigade, the Civil Police, the General Institute of Forensics (IGP), and Caminho da Paz Funeral Home attended the scene. The victim's body was removed after the forensic examination.

Status of the Victim and Other Occupants

The 35-year-old driver of the Spacefox succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. The truck driver suffered finger fractures, while the four occupants of the Citroën Picasso were unharmed.
