Zelda celebrates 40 years with remake and limited-edition Switch 2

The 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series has brought two major announcements that put the franchise's name in the spotlight: the remake of Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, set for release on November 5, and the special edition of the console, released on October 29.

Ocarina of Time remake arrives on Switch 2

Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the first gameplay of the remake, which features fully overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, and an orchestral soundtrack. The game also features a free camera, jump control, and reworked movement, while keeping the essence of the 1998 adventure.

Limited-edition Switch 2 celebrates the milestone

The commemorative console features a black and gold finish with the Triforce symbol on all surfaces, along with a themed dock and Joy-Cons. The internal hardware is the same as the standard Switch 2 version, including a vivid display, faster performance, and 4K output support when docked to compatible TVs.

How to secure your unit

Pre-orders opened in early October and sold out quickly. Even so, retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and the official Nintendo Store have shown intermittent restocks. Each unit costs $520 and requires registration at the respective stores to complete the purchase.

Accessories and collectibles

Along with the console, Nintendo released a carrying case with series artwork and a screen protector, as well as a themed Pro Controller. Both were made available on the same day as the console. Young Link and Young Zelda Amiibos, scheduled for 2027, were also announced, allowing players to unlock retro masks in the game.

Other Nintendo celebrations

The celebration includes a global concert series dedicated to the franchise's music, as well as a live-action movie scheduled for April 30, 2027. Users of the Nintendo Today! app can collect daily digital cards from the series, and the console's calendar theme now displays illustrations from different Zelda titles.
