Vojvoda sacked after Racing elimination

Juan Pablo Vojvoda, former Fortaleza and Santos coach, stepped down from his role as Racing's manager last Monday, after 13 matches and their elimination from the Copa Argentina quarterfinals against Boca Juniors.

Vojvoda's stint at Racing comes to an end

The coach arrived at the club in June this year and led the team in 13 matches: four wins, two draws, and seven defeats. The last match, at home against Boca, was 2-0 for Racing until the 25th minute of the second half, but the opponent turned the game around with Enner Valencia, who scored three headers.

Coach's reaction to his dismissal

In an interview with Dsports Radio, Vojvoda stated: “It was a club decision, I accepted it. They also have their voice and their decision. I am an employee. I was firm, but I understood the situation. I won't be an obstacle for Racing.” He acknowledged that results were not being achieved and that the club needed to “turn things around.”

Racing had qualification for the semifinals when Boca Juniors entered the field. Former Internacional player, Enner Valencia, came on as a substitute and scored a hat-trick, turning the game into a 3-2 victory for Boca. Vojvoda described the turnaround as “very tough” and took responsibility alongside the players.

Racing's situation in the Argentine Championship

With the Copa elimination, Racing will only compete in the Torneio Clausura. The team occupies second to last place, with only eight points. The club had already registered three consecutive defeats in the Clausura, which increased pressure on the coach.

According to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, the coaching role will be shared between Sebastián Romero and Luciano Aued until the end of the season. The decision to dismiss Vojvoda was communicated by the directors in a meeting with the coach, without an official statement from either party.
