Corinthians remains without a manager following the dismissal of Fernando Diniz, which took place amid a streak of seven consecutive defeats in the Brasileirão. The board has already sounded out three candidates, but none of the talks yielded results.

Sylvinho Maintains Priority in Europe

The manager, who played for the club in the 1990s and led the Albanian national team over the past three years, remains in Portugal. He stepped down in May after guiding the squad to the World Cup qualifying playoffs, though he failed to secure a spot in the tournament. Since then, Sylvinho has been evaluating job opportunities for next season and ruled out returning to Timão.

Ramón Díaz Faces Legal Obstacle

Ramón Díaz, the board's preferred choice, initially showed interest in taking the job again. However, the board was alerted by the legal department about a six-match ban handed to the coach in 2025 for sexist remarks made while he was still managing Internacional. The possibility of hiring the Argentine despite the suspension—leaving his son, Emiliano Díaz, to lead the team for part of the season—was ruled out by the club's staff. The board also discussed obtaining a stay of execution, but the lack of legal guarantees and contractual demands hindered an agreement.

Luis Zubeldía Rejects Approach Over Reluctance to Take on At-Risk Team

The former São Paulo and Fluminense boss, approached while the club was still in talks with Ramón Díaz, showed no interest in taking over a team fighting to stay in Série A. Zubeldía prioritizes taking charge of a team only next season and would only reconsider his plans in the event of an offer deemed irresistible. The approach by Corinthians did not fit that scenario.

Board Still Searching for Alternatives

Following Diniz's departure, Corinthians has nine matches left to avoid relegation to Série B. The board continues to search for a replacement, but failed to reach an agreement with the three aforementioned names. Fábio Carille was approached as an additional option, but there is still no confirmation of a hiring.

Impact on Club Performance

Timão dropped to 16th place in the table, one point behind Inter, and sits just one point clear of the relegation zone. The defeat to Internacional in the 29th round raised Corinthians' relegation probability to 36.2%, according to projections from UFMG's Department of Mathematics.
