The term soldier is gaining widespread attention following the release of two striking events involving military personnel. While one case reports the death of a serviceman after stepping on a landmine, another recounts the emotional story of a combatant buried twice by the same comrade.

The soldier's death in a landmine field

A Colombian soldier died after stepping on a landmine in the department of Antioquia, located in the northwest of the country. In the same incident, three other servicemen were injured during military operations in a rural area of the municipality of Briceño. The explosion occurred while troops were conducting operations in a strategic region used by armed groups.

Rescue and medical care

After the landmine was triggered, the wounded soldiers were evacuated from the area in Colombian Air Force aircraft to Medellín, the department's capital, where they are receiving medical treatment. The Ministry attributed the act to criminals and reported that the identities of the other injured individuals remain confidential.

The veteran's emotional account

On another front, the account of veteran Ho Viet Hung moved many as he recalled the death of young soldier Nguyen Huu Que on the battlefield of Quang Tri. The two fought together, sharing food and water, when his companion fell in combat during a bombing in 1972.

The battlefield burial and the return

Unable to carry their comrade to the rear, the soldiers buried him in the middle of the battlefield, using a piece of metal to engrave his name. Years later, his remains were found in a cemetery and, recently, exhumed to finally return to his hometown in the presence of his old comrades.
