The first leg of the Copa Paulista round of 16 between São Caetano and Primavera gained prominence following the announcement of new signings and the official appointment of coach Edson Vieira. The match, scheduled for 3:00 PM this Saturday at Anacleto Campanella Stadium, will determine who advances to the quarterfinals.

New signings arrive at São Caetano

Azulão will have four new players available: midfielder Christian, originally from Maricá-RJ; midfielder Matheus, coming from Rio Branco-AC; right-back Andrey Quintino, formerly of Juventus-SP; and forward Vinícius Reis Borges, from Club Calor-MEX. The board also reported that another athlete is in the process of being signed, bringing the total to five announced reinforcements.

First clash against Primavera

The first leg will be held at Anacleto Campanella Stadium at 3:00 PM and is worth a spot in the quarterfinals. In the event of a tie on aggregate, the decision will go to penalties. The second leg is scheduled for September 5th at 5:00 PM, at Ítalo Mário Limongi Stadium in Indaiatuba.

Group stage performance

São Caetano finished the group stage with only two points, the result of two draws and four losses, scoring two goals and conceding nine. Qualification for the knockout stage came after a legal ruling that eliminated Santo André for irregular player registration. Primavera, runner-up of the previous edition, reached the knockout stage with ten points in six games.

Coaches' expectations

Recently hired coach Edson Vieira highlighted the importance of the first knockout match and acknowledged Primavera as the favorites, but emphasized that football allows for a comeback. Primavera's coach, Tony Carvalho, counts on the return of defensive midfielder Cerezo, suspended in the fifth round of the group stage, and intends to maintain the core that secured their strong campaign.

Upcoming matches and potential developments

With a victory in the first clash, the winner will secure a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will compete for berths in national competitions such as the Copa Brasil or Série D. São Caetano, which initially planned to prepare the team for the Campeonato Paulista Série A4, now aims to advance to the final of the Copa Paulista.
