Conor Benn, who hasn't made weight in over four years, faces Ryan Garcia in a world boxing title fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The encounter draws attention due to the required weight cut for lightweight, the fighters' statements, and the anticipation of a clash between contrasting styles.

What Changed in Weight for Benn

Benn, 29, is expected to weigh a maximum of 10st 7lb (67kg) at Friday's weigh-in, prior to the bout. He hasn't made the lightweight limit since April 2022, when he stopped Chris van Heerden in two rounds. Since then, Benn moved up to 11st 6lb (73kg) for two lucrative fights against Chris Eubank Jr., losing the first in April 2025 and winning the rematch seven months later.

Reactions to the Weight Cut

Benn's appearance in photos and videos during fight week raised concerns among some observers about the effects of returning to lightweight. Former world champion Carl Froch and former opponent Chris Algieri questioned whether the cut could leave him drained.

Conflicting Fighting Styles

Benn is an aggressive fighter who likes to pressure opponents, while Garcia, 28, possesses fast hands and is known for a dangerous counter left hook. Garcia stated that although he won't appear at the press conference, he is prepared and doesn't want to play mind games with Benn.

Benn's Post-Fight Plans

Even if Benn wins the title, he intends to vacate the belt immediately and return to welterweight or even super-welterweight, saying he loves challenges and that life without them would be boring.

Benn's Development in the Ring

At the weigh-in, Benn appeared relaxed and in good spirits, chatting with the British press and his father, Nigel Benn, by his side. He described Garcia as a “stranger” and stated that the champion's absence from certain events doesn't bother him.
