Retroid has officially announced the Pocket Duo, a dual-screen handheld that promises to cater to the Nintendo DS and 3DS emulation community. The release includes two model options: the Pocket Duo Lite and the full Pocket Duo, with differences in memory and storage.

Lite model and entry-level price

The Pocket Duo Lite has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, costing $149. A version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage goes for $169. The discount code "DUOLITE" guarantees $14 off during pre-orders.

Standard version and technical specifications

The standard Pocket Duo offers 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, priced at $269. The Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-7790 chip powers the system, which runs Android 16 and features a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED main screen and a 4.5-inch 960p secondary screen. The code "DUO" gives a $20 discount.

Pre-order and delivery dates

Pre-orders begin on September 11 at 9:30 PM EST (2:30 AM GMT on the 12th). In Brazil, the opening date is September 12 at 9:30 AM BJT. The Pocket Duo Lite will start shipping on September 17, while the Pocket Duo is scheduled to begin shipping in mid-October.

Comparison with competitors

The Pocket Duo enters a market already occupied by devices like the AYN Thor and the Anbernic RG DS. In terms of performance, the Dragonwing Q-7790 outperforms the Thor Lite's Snapdragon 865 and offers compatibility with DS, 3DS, and other retro system emulation. The price of the Pocket Duo, ranging from $149 to $269, positions it between the Anbernic RG DS (starting at $100) and the Ayaneo Pocket DS (over $579).

Conclusion

With dual screens and robust hardware, the Pocket Duo promises to revitalize the emulation-focused handheld segment. Pre-orders are now open, and interested buyers can take advantage of the discounts available with the codes "DUOLITE" and "DUO" before slots run out.
