Ipsos Survey Reveals Drop in Lula Government's Approval Rating

A new Ipsos-Ipec survey, conducted between September 9 and 13, showed that the approval rating for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration has fallen again, reaching its lowest level since June 2025. The poll, which interviewed 2,000 voters in 130 municipalities, has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.

What the Survey Indicates About Government Approval

According to the study, 43% of Brazilians consider the current administration bad or terrible, while 33% classify it as great or good, and 23% deem it regular. This result represents a 5 percentage point increase in the "bad or terrible" category compared to the June survey, when the rate was 38%.

Disapproval of Governing Style

The survey also asked whether respondents approve or disapprove of the way Lula is governing the country. The disapproval rate rose to 53%, against 42% approval. In June, disapproval was 50% and approval was 44%.

Trust in the President

Regarding personal trust in the president, 57% of respondents said they do not trust Lula, while 40% stated they do. The number of those who do not trust him increased by 1 percentage point compared to the previous survey.

Perception of the Economic Situation

Regarding the economy, 45% of respondents believe the country's economic situation is worse than six months ago, up from 41% in June. On the other hand, the expectation of improvement in the next six months grew, rising from 36% to 42%.

Profiles of Those with Negative Evaluations

Negative evaluations predominated among young people aged 25 to 34, evangelicals, men, individuals with higher education, and family incomes above five minimum wages. It was also higher in the South, Southeast, North, and Central-West regions. In contrast, positive evaluations were higher among women, seniors over 60, Black and mixed-race individuals, those with less schooling, and in the Northeast region.

The data points to a scenario of growing dissatisfaction with the federal administration, especially in economic areas and institutional trust, as the 2026 elections approach.
