With the release date of Fast Forever set for March 17, 2028, the lingering question for the saga is whether Brian O'Conner, the character played by Paul Walker, will return to the big screen. The answer is in the hands of Meadow Walker, the late actor's only daughter.

Meadow Walker as Guardian of the Legacy

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cody Walker—Paul's younger brother—stated that the decision regarding Brian's participation is entirely up to Meadow. "It's what Meadow wants to see done; it's her father," he declared, indicating that she holds authority over the character's future.

Cody Walker's Stance

Cody explained that following Paul's death on November 30, 2013, he and his brother Caleb acted as body doubles while Weta Digital used CGI to complete the scenes for Furious 7. He emphasized that Brian's exit from the plot—retiring to care for his family—was "beautiful" and that he has no interest in repeating the body double work, especially if the production opts for artificial intelligence or archival footage.

Meadow's Role in the Franchise

Meadow already made an appearance in Fast X (2023) as a flight attendant who assists Jakob Toretto. Her bond with Vin Diesel, a close friend of Paul, keeps her close to the core of the series and positions her as the primary interlocutor in negotiations regarding Brian's fate.

Vin Diesel's Promises and the Release Date

Vin Diesel, at a FuelFest event in June 2025, stated that the ending will reunite Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner, a condition he established with Universal. However, confirmation depends on Meadow's approval, as she has not yet publicly commented.

Next Steps for Production

Universal announced in January 2026 the official title of the eleventh film—Fast Forever—and confirmed Louis Leterrier as director, returning after Fast X. The release window change, from April 2027 to March 2028, has allowed more time for the Brian issue to be resolved.
