On August 10, 2026, the father of presenter José Fernando Patiño was left under the debris of a building that collapsed in Cali, after the strong earthquake that struck several regions of the country. The journalist, who was in Bogotá, asked authorities for support to accelerate search and rescue operations.

Father of José Fernando Patiño trapped under debris

According to released information, Patiño's father was in the Torres del Limonar building, located in the Capri neighborhood in southern Cali. The family lost contact with him shortly after the collapse, and a neighbor said they heard the man shout “Darío Patiño”.

Presenter's appeal to authorities

In an interview with Blu Radio, the presenter said: “I never imagined being on this side of the news. Evidently, this has traumatized us. I am at the airport.” He reported that he still has not received any word from his father and that, despite being in Bogotá, he continues to follow the situation.

Situation at the Torres del Limonar building

From the site, Patiño made a call for authorities to send more machines, saws, cordless polishers and rescue teams in order to advance the search. He emphasized that his father has not yet been found and that the need for support was urgent.

Call for more rescue equipment

The presenter, visibly emotional, declared: “Please, the authorities are urgently required to help clear the debris. My dad is alive.” He asked that rescue resources be quickly dispatched to the site, while local residents also requested support from emergency forces.

Preliminary casualty figures and ongoing searches

President Abelardo de la Espriella announced, in a press conference, that the preliminary death toll from the earthquake reached 111. Authorities warned that the number could rise in the coming hours, as rescue operations continue in collapsed buildings and in areas where the presence of people under the debris is still being investigated.
