Singer Rick's Death Leaves Sertanejo Duo in Mourning

The tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of singer Rick, a member of a famous 1990s sertanejo duo, brought the topic to the front page of newspapers and sparked an intense search for information about the case.

What Happened to the Helicopter

On Monday afternoon (21), a Bell 430 helicopter took off from Porto Belo, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, heading to São Joaquim, covering approximately 190 kilometers. During the journey, the aircraft encountered a storm with winds of almost 100 km/h and hail, which hampered visibility. According to commander Jair Barbosa, the very poor weather conditions may have led the pilot to attempt a forced landing, resulting in the aircraft colliding with treetops and its vertical descent.

Victims and Identification

In addition to Rick, the cabin carried businessman Bruno Avelar, pilot Antônio Roberto Nóbrega de Araújo, co-pilot Leopoldo Barros Teixeira, and videographer Paulo Soares, 24. All bodies were recovered and sent to the Forensic Medical Institute of Florianópolis, which released the victims for funeral arrangements.

Rick's Funeral in Sorocaba

The singer's body will be waked and buried in Sorocaba on Thursday (24). Mayor Rodrigo Manga stated that the city would welcome Rick with open arms, emphasizing the affection the artist holds across Brazil. The location and time of the ceremony have not yet been disclosed, but the event will be closed to family members.

Rick became known alongside Renner, his duo partner, for hits like “Ela é Demais” and other successes from the 1990s. The singer's sudden death caused a stir among sertanejo music admirers, who recall his career and the duo's importance to the genre.

Investigation and Probable Causes

Initial analyses suggest that poor visibility caused by intense rain and hail may have compromised the aircraft's lift, possibly deforming the main rotor blades. Furthermore, strong vertical winds would have pushed the helicopter rapidly towards the ground. There was no explosion or fire after impact, thanks to the flexible rubber fuel tanks.
