The LA Galaxy were thrashed 3-0 by the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night at BC Place, in a clash that put the Canadian side at the top of the Western Conference.
Ryan Gauld Celebrates Historic Milestone
Scottish midfielder Ryan Gauld scored his 50th goal as a Whitecap, becoming the first player in the Major League Soccer era to reach 50 goals and 50 assists for the club. The goal came in the 57th minute, after two drives that culminated in a shot to the corner of JT Marcinkowski's net.
Contributions from Brian White and Bruno Caicedo
Forward Brian White opened the scoring in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a play that involved a quick pass from Thomas Muller and a header before the volley. Bruno Caicedo completed the score in the 89th minute, converting a penalty after the ball struck the opposing goalkeeper's hand.
Whitecaps' Tactical Dominance
Vancouver controlled possession and doubled their number of shots in the second half, increasing from eight to fifteen attempts, while the Galaxy only managed five shots overall. Goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka made important saves, including against Hirving Lozano, who tried to find the top corner.
Injuries and Absences
Thomas Muller left injured in the 27th minute after colliding with a Galaxy defender. The club reported that the injury was similar to a “charley horse” and could worsen.
