Hurricane Isaias, which is intensifying at 85 mph, brought heavy rain and strong winds that forced organizers across Georgia to cancel, postpone, or relocate events scheduled for the weekend of October 10 and 11.

Cancellation of Art and Culture Festivals

Chalktoberfest, held at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, has been canceled. Over 80 artists who prepared for the festival were affected. Organizers promise to inform ticket holders and hope the event will return in 2027.

The Harvest Hoedown in Warm Springs was also canceled, though local shops and restaurants remain open. The Multicultural Festival in Canton, at Harmon Park, was canceled due to attendee safety concerns.

Postponement of Food and Community Events

The Atlanta Turkish Food Festival has been postponed, with a new date to be announced. The Euharlee Covered Bridge Fall Festival, traditionally a “rain-or-shine” event, was also canceled. The North Georgia Folk Festival in the city of Athens was canceled with no future date announced.

Impacts on Sporting and Fundraising Events

Woofstock in Fayetteville and Making Strides of Atlanta, a cancer fundraising walk, were canceled. College football games, such as Georgia Tech vs. Florida State and Georgia vs. Alabama, were postponed or kept with schedule adjustments. The Fort Valley State vs. Clark Atlanta game was rescheduled for November 12.

School and Community Events Affected

Several schools had to cancel or postpone events. The Bainbridge High School prom was canceled, with refunds promised to students who purchased tickets. The Madison High & Junior High rodeo was canceled due to safety concerns.

The Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay remains on schedule, but organizers warn they may adjust operations if severe weather conditions persist. Atlanta Pride remains on schedule, though organizers recommend following updates.

Organizers' Responses and Next Steps

Organizers of canceled events are in direct contact with attendees to provide additional information. Most are waiting on weather forecasts to decide whether there will be a new date or if events can proceed safely. Official event websites and social media channels are being monitored for updates.
