Cold Front Brings Rain and Temperature Drop to Several States

The movement of a cold front that began in Rio Grande do Sul is spreading across the South-Central and Southeast regions, causing intense rain and a drop in temperature in at least seven states. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a yellow warning for potential danger of storms across Paraná, Santa Catarina, and the northernmost part of Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to alerting to low humidity in several regions.

What Changes for Rain and Temperature

The advance of the cold air mass across the Atlantic Ocean, combined with the action of low-pressure systems, increases instability and creates a moisture corridor that transports warm and muggy air to the South, Southeast, and Central-West regions. The forecast indicates isolated rains varying in intensity, with showers, thunderstorms, wind gusts, hail, and lightning strikes. The minimum temperature in the southern region can reach 9 °C in Porto Alegre, while the maximum in Curitiba will be around 23 °C.

Impact on Major Capital Cities

In the Southeast, São Paulo is forecast to have rain and thunderstorms, with a maximum of 32 °C in Rio de Janeiro. Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo may experience rain showers, and the minimum temperature in Belo Horizonte is expected to be 12 °C, with a maximum of 31 °C in Vitória. In the Central-West, Mato Grosso do Sul may have isolated rain and thunderstorms, with highs of 30 °C in Campo Grande.

Low Humidity and Storm Alerts

Inmet warns of low air humidity in large parts of Piauí, south-central Ceará, southwest Rio Grande do Norte, western Paraíba, Pernambuco and Alagoas, and the interior of Bahia. The same source issued a yellow warning for potential danger of storms in south-central São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo, as well as in Paraná and Santa Catarina.

Conditions in the North and Northeast

In the North region, the combination of heat and humidity favors the formation of rain clouds, with the possibility of isolated showers in Amazonas, Pará, and Tocantins. Maximum temperatures can reach 38 °C in Porto Velho and Palmas. In the Northeast, the sky will be mostly cloudy along the coastal strip, with a possibility of isolated rain only on the south-central coast of Bahia. Minimum temperatures in the capitals range between 22 °C in Maceió and 38 °C in Teresina.

What to Expect This Weekend

For Saturday, instability increases, with showers and thunderstorms in Amazonas, Rondônia, and southwestern Pará. In south-central Mato Grosso do Sul, rain and thunderstorms are forecast, with highs of 29 °C in Brasília and 30 °C in Campo Grande. In the Southeast, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are expected to record rain and thunderstorms, with a maximum of 22 °C in São Paulo and 26 °C in Rio de Janeiro.
