Eva Marie Saint passed away this Tuesday at the age of 102 at her home in Los Angeles. The announcement of the death of the actress, a 1955 Oscar winner, reignited searches about her life and work, placing her name among the most searched on the internet.

Award-winning film career

Saint won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in On the Waterfront (1954), alongside Marlon Brando. The film received 12 nominations and won eight categories, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

The iconic role in "North by Northwest"

In 1959, director Alfred Hitchcock cast Saint as the spy Eve Kendall in North by Northwest. Critics highlighted her “icy, seductive appeal” and her ability to overcome the damsel-in-distress stereotype, staying two or three steps ahead of the protagonist.

Television and theater trajectory

Before cinema, Saint debuted on TV in "Camp Hoop La" and became a regular on "One Man’s Family". She participated in anthology series such as "Philco Playhouse" and "Studio One", receiving Emmy nominations. In the 1980s, she joined the cast of the series "Moonlighting" and, in 2006, played Martha Kent in Superman Returns. In theater, she acted in productions such as "The Rainmaker" and "Desire Under the Elms".

Recognitions and legacy

In addition to the Oscar, Saint won an Emmy in 1990 for her appearance in the miniseries "People Like Us". She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for film and another for television, highlighting her versatility.

Personal life and final years

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Saint studied at Bowling Green State University before pursuing an artistic career. She raised two children, Darrell and Laurette, and remained active in causes such as the Motion Picture and Television Fund and the Epilepsy Foundation of Los Angeles. Her final film was "Winter’s Tale" (2014).
