Domino's Faces Drop in Average Sales Amidst Order Growth
New CEO Joe Jordan Faces Challenge to Increase Spend Per Order After Third Quarter Results

Domino's Pizza Inc. announced that in the third quarter, the number of orders increased, but the amount spent per customer decreased. This fact put the company in focus, as investors and analysts await the first address from new CEO, Joe Jordan.
Existing Store Performance in the Third Quarter
U.S. same-store sales rose just 0.1% in the quarter, following a 0.9% increase in the previous period. The "same-store" indicator accounted for 98% of the chain's sales, measuring revenue from established restaurants and excluding new units.
Product Launches to Stimulate Spending
To offset the drop in average ticket, Domino's introduced the Detroit-style pizza, with a Parmesan crust, available in individual portions and sold only in the last week of the quarter. The company also included the Parmesan stuffed crust pizza in the R$9.99 "Best Deal Ever" promotion, valid during the summer.
Participation in Delivery Platforms
In July, former CEO Russell Weiner stated that Domino's believed it was the leading pizza brand on DoorDash and Uber Eats platforms, estimating that about half of the orders on these apps represented additional business. The term "DoorDash" appears in 61% of earnings forecast contract negotiations.
International Expansion and Performance in India
Domino's Indian franchise operator reported comparable sales growth of 4.1%, up from 2.5% in the previous quarter, a fact appearing in 58% of forecast negotiations.
Use of Artificial Intelligence in Operations
Although the word "AI" appears in 38% of negotiations, the company developed an orchestration agent to coordinate pizza preparation with the arrival of delivery drivers, seeking to improve logistical efficiency.
Earnings Call Expectations
Wall Street analysts project earnings of US$4.40 per share and revenue of US$1.17 billion for the quarter. In the predictions market, 64% of participants believe GAAP earnings will exceed US$4.43 per share. CFO Sandeep Reddy reaffirmed, in July, the goal of improving the average ticket, while analyst Peter Saleh warned that resuming 1% to 2% sales growth would not be "exactly spectacular."
