Cristiano Ronaldo leaves camp after refusing Jorge Jesus' request

Cristiano Ronaldo abandoned the Portugal national team's training camp in Copenhagen after a final attempt at persuasion by Jorge Jesus and Pedro Proença. The incident occurred on Sunday night, when the forward headed to the airport to board a private plane that would take him back to Madrid.

Final attempt to persuade

Jorge Jesus, the team's coach, and Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, accompanied Ronaldo to the airport. They presented arguments for the forward to remain with the rest of the squad, but were unsuccessful.

Ronaldo's decision

Ronaldo maintained his decision to leave the training camp. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the forward refused to listen to the arguments and boarded the plane that arrived in Denmark around 10:15 PM local time.

Return to Madrid

The private jet departed from Copenhagen with Cristiano Ronaldo on board and headed for Madrid. Jorge Jesus and Pedro Proença remained in Denmark, awaiting the rest of the delegation.

Context of the apology

According to journalist Edu Aguirre, a friend of Ronaldo's, Jorge Jesus had apologized to the forward privately after leaving him warming up for about 30 minutes without putting him on the field. The coach had reportedly promised to issue a public apology. Jesus' change in public stance allegedly made Ronaldo feel betrayed, influencing his decision to leave.

Impact on the national team

Ronaldo's departure occurred amidst the repercussion of the incident involving the coach. While the delegation remained in Copenhagen, the forward was already en route to Madrid, which could alter the squad's composition for upcoming commitments.
