A magnitude‑7.4 quake was recorded on August 10, 2026 at 7:34 a.m. in San José del Palmar, Chocó, triggering a state of emergency in several regions of the country. Facing an urgent need for assistance, multiple organizations activated help channels to deliver food, basic goods and financial resources to the affected areas.

How ABACO’s Humanitarian Corridor Works

The Association of Food Banks of Colombia (ABACO) created a humanitarian corridor to transport food and essential items to the affected communities. The mobilization focuses on moving goods and purchasing basic‑basket products, serving people in official shelters, health centers, hospitals, families who are self‑housed, and communities near the most affected territories.

ABACO’s Donation Channels

ABACO made available two checking accounts at Bancolombia for monetary contributions: checking account 15264342372 and savings account 04867105340, both in the association’s name, with NIT 900326456‑1. In addition, the entity opened Bre‑B keys – nubiahernandez@abaco.org.co and 0090989753 – to receive donations via an instant‑payment system. The funds raised will be used for humanitarian transport and to purchase the listed foods.

Fundación PLAN and Red Cross Campaigns

Fundación PLAN launched the “Earthquake in Colombia” campaign on its official website, allowing contributions through its page or the Bre‑B key emergenciaterrem, accompanied by a QR code. Simultaneously, the Colombian Red Cross invited the public to contribute via its official channels as part of the #TodosPorColombia campaign.

Collection Points in Medellín, Cali and Bogotá

Medellín mayor Federico Gutiérrez announced the activation of collection points in partnership with Presentes and food banks. Priority Items for the Victims

Requested products include water, rice, oil, pasta, lentils, beans, chickpeas, peas, canned foods, corn and wheat flour, cooking pots, chocolate, dried fruits, oats, spreads, powdered milk, 200 ml UHT milk, and ready‑to‑eat meals. Hygiene and basic‑care items are also needed, such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads, toilet paper, diapers for infants and adults, wet wipes, diaper‑rash cream, towels, mats and blankets.

To deliver donations directly to food banks, ABACO asks donors to notify a business day in advance, specifying the date and collection point, by sending a notice to ingridbrown@abaco.org.co or donacoeslogistica@abaco.org.co. The organizations recommend checking official channels before transporting large quantities of goods to confirm which items are truly needed in each area.
