Coinbase announced that, starting September 15, it will cease offering trading in eight cryptocurrency pairs. The decision is part of a regular market review, aimed at improving overall market health and concentrating liquidity in the most active pairs.

Why Coinbase is Removing Trading Pairs

According to the exchange itself, the measure seeks to optimize trading conditions and strengthen liquidity. The removal of pairs with low trading volume or insufficient liquidity is a common procedure to increase the efficiency of order books.

Which Pairs Will Be Suspended

The pairs that will cease to be traded are ANKR-EUR, BAT-BTC, BAT-ETH, COMP-BTC, FIL-BTC, GRT-BTC, JASMY-USDT, and YFI-BTC. All these pairs will transition to limit-only mode before suspension, allowing users to still submit and cancel limited orders, but preventing new market orders.

What Remains Available for Users

The assets ANKR, BAT, COMP, FIL, GRT, JASMY, and YFI will continue to be available through their USD order books for Coinbase Advanced Trade users in eligible regions. The change only eliminates individual markets denominated in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and euros.

Impact on Altcoin Trading

The closure particularly affects the BAT token, which loses both the BAT-BTC and BAT-ETH pairs. The Graph (GRT) has its second pair reduced in just over a month, following the removal of GRT-GBP in August.

Context of Previous Reviews

In August, Coinbase suspended six other non-USD pairs, such as LSETH-ETH and MINA-EUR, and completely deactivated trading for assets like Idex and Loopring following compliance assessments with its listing standards. In May, the exchange also announced the suspension of pairs such as APT-USDT and SAND-USDT.

How Users Should Proceed

It is important for users to check the still-supported pairs for the assets they wish to trade. If the desired pair has been removed, trading can continue through the USD order books, if available.
