Claude Opus 5.5 Hits Market with Fable 5.1 Performance and Lower Price

Anthropic announced on Tuesday (22) Claude Opus 5.5, its new artificial intelligence model that combines the performance of Claude Fable 5.1 with a significantly lower cost, sparking great interest among developer communities and companies seeking more accessible AI.

Performance Comparable to Fable 5.1

According to the company, Opus 5.5 delivers results equivalent to Claude Fable 5.1 in most tasks, even surpassing the previous Opus 5 model in internal safety and textual clarity tests. In benchmarks like AutomationBench and Terminal-Bench-Science 0.1, the model outperformed its predecessors, although it still trails OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra.

40% Cost Reduction

Opus 5.5 costs US$4 per million input tokens and US$20 per million output tokens, representing 20% less than Opus 5 and generating 40% savings for typical workloads. This price reduction allows subscribers to use the model without needing to purchase external credits.

Speed and Fast Mode

Available across all Claude channels – Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure – the model can operate in “Fast mode,” delivering tasks up to 2.5 times faster, albeit at a higher cost. This flexibility caters to projects prioritizing speed as well as those seeking the most economical solution.

Advanced Programming Applications

For developers, Opus 5.5 excels in long and complex tasks, such as code migrations or source code audits. A case cited by Anthropic shows the AI auditing and improving a 200,000-line codebase in less than three hours, whereas Opus 5 would take approximately twenty hours and consume 2.5 times more tokens.

Availability and Expanded Limits

For Pro, Max, and Team plans, Anthropic has increased the usage limit to five hours and granted an interaction reset, allowing users to save and utilize their limits when needed. The model also includes invisible watermarks and operates only in adaptive reasoning mode.
