Caixa releases new round of refunds for former PIS/Pasep quotas
Workers who requested refunds by July will receive their funds this Tuesday
Caixa Econômica Federal released this Tuesday, August 25, a new round of refunds for former PIS/Pasep fund quotas. The payment covers requests that were submitted and approved by July 31, 2026.
Who is eligible for the refund
The benefit is aimed at formally employed private-sector workers and public servants who worked between 1971 and 1988 and still had unwithdrawn quotas from the former fund. In the event of the holder's death, heirs or legal beneficiaries can also request the funds, provided they present the required documentation to prove their relationship.
It is estimated that more than 10 million Brazilians may have funds available for withdrawal. The total estimated refund amount is R$ 26.3 billion, with an average balance of approximately R$ 2,800 per person, though individual amounts vary depending on each holder's history.
How to check available balances
The money is not automatically deposited for everyone who has a balance. To be included in the schedule, workers or heirs must check for the existence of funds and formally request the refund.
The inquiry can be made through the REPIS Cidadão webpage, where access requires a silver or gold level gov.br account, and users must provide their Social Identification Number or Social Registration Number. Tracking and requests can also be done via the FGTS app, and those facing difficulties have the option to visit a Caixa branch.
Difference from the current salary allowance
The amounts paid in this batch do not correspond to the annual PIS/Pasep salary allowance paid to workers who meet income and length-of-service criteria. This current fund comes from former individual quotas established before the 1988 Constitution, which were transferred to the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) following legislative changes.
Deadline to withdraw the funds
Holders and heirs have until September 2028 to request their refund. After this deadline, any remaining funds that have not been withdrawn will be permanently transferred to the National Treasury.
