Platense announced the signing of Bruno Sepúlveda to replace the injured Luciano Giménez and count on the striker in the CONMEBOL Libertadores quarter-finals against Fluminense. The Chilean player's arrival comes as the club seeks to overturn the 2-0 defeat suffered in the first leg.

Why Sepúlveda's signing gained prominence

Sepúlveda joined the club after scoring four goals in the first seven rounds of the Argentine Torneo Clausura for Banfield, where he finished the season with 16 goals and seven assists in 64 matches. His recent performance sparked interest from Platense, which officialized his signing until December 2027.

Sepúlveda's expected role in attack

Standing 1.88 meters tall, the striker offers a physical presence in the box, the ability to contest aerial duels, and the capacity to convert crosses and rebounds into goalscoring opportunities. Coach Martín Palermo's strategy includes using Sepúlveda as a target man to pin the opponent's defense.

Immediate performance at the Maracanã

In his first match, Sepúlveda started at the Maracanã, playing alongside Nicolás Retamar. Although Platense lost 2-0, the striker took part in pressing and battling Fluminense's defenders, without being able to convert his performance into dangerous shots.

What the club needs to advance

To take the second leg to penalties, Platense must win by a two-goal margin; a three-goal victory eliminates Fluminense directly. Sepúlveda's offensive contribution could be decisive in increasing the volume of shots and improving efficiency against their rival.

Expectations for the remainder of the Libertadores

If Platense achieves the comeback, they will advance to the semifinals of the competition, keeping the quest for the so-called “Gloria Eterna” alive. Sepúlveda will have the opportunity to bring to the continent the same clinical form he showed in his final matches for Banfield.
